How Gas Bills are Calculated in Pakistan?

Gas companies in Pakistan (SNGPL and SSGC) use a two-step process for billing. First, the volume of gas consumed is measured in **hm³** (from your meter readings). Then, this volume is converted into **MMBTU** (Million British Thermal Units) using the Gas Calorific Value (GCV).

Protected vs. Non-Protected Category

The government introduced these categories to protect low-income households. If your average usage during the four winter months (November to February) is less than **0.9 hm³**, you are marked as a **Protected Consumer** for the rest of the year.

Latest Fixed Charges (2025-26)

• Protected: Rs. 600 per month (regardless of usage).
• Non-Protected (up to 1.5 hm³): Rs. 1,500 per month.
• Non-Protected (above 1.5 hm³): Rs. 3,000 per month.

What is GCV?

GCV stands for Gas Calorific Value. It represents the "quality" or energy content of the gas being supplied. It varies slightly by region and month. You can find the exact GCV for your area on the top-right section of your monthly bill.
