Organizing a Shared Qurbani
Ijtimai Qurbani (shared sacrifice) is very common in Pakistan. A cow, buffalo, or camel can be split into 7 equal shares (Hissas), making it an economical way for multiple families to fulfill their religious obligation.
Managing the Costs
When managing a shared animal, it is best practice to pool all associated costs—not just the purchase price of the animal. This ensures that the person organizing the logistics is not unfairly burdened.
- Butcher (Qasai) Fee: Usually ranges from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 for a large animal.
- Transport: Renting a loader or Shahzore to bring the animal from the Mandi to your home.
- Fodder: Feeding the animal for the days leading up to Eid.
Frequently Asked Questions
According to Islamic jurisprudence, a large animal like a Cow, Buffalo, or Camel can be divided into up to 7 shares (Hissas). A small animal like a Goat or Sheep counts as exactly 1 share.
In a shared Qurbani (Ijtimai Qurbani), all associated logistics costs (like transport, butcher fees, and fodder) should ideally be distributed equally among the share partners to maintain fairness.
